What if DNAS is terminated?
If, for whatever reason, DNAS is taken offline by Game Fusion, the following things will happen:
- Games that use the service will not connect successfully
- You will be unable to play online through the official servers (using unofficial servers are strongly encouraged if DNAS goes down, if you still want to play online)
- Your network access utility will tell you the service is down
- DNAS will not allow connections and will respond with "offline" rather than "online"
Oh no! But I want to keep playing!
Don't worry! We have no plans right now to terminate DNAS, and if we did, here's some alternatives:
- Make your own unofficial DNAS server! (Recommended)
This would let you and others keep playing DNAS, and it's easy - make a similar service on another modem channel, and change the game code to connect to this server instead!
- Use OpenStation 2
OpenStation 2 is a FOSS (free open source software) version of the GameStation 2. No source code was used, and it is a GS2 rewritten from the ground up. With OS2, it will connect with the official GameStation 2 DNAS. However, if this is unavailable, it will trick the game being played into thinking DNAS is online [using a fake message sent from the console], and the game will continue to play as usual! This is mostly compatible, with no side-effects.
- Mod the game [Not recommended]
Modify the game code to "connect" to DNAS. This is not recommended, as this system is the hardest to do compared to connecting to an unofficial server by modifying a few numbers in the code (modem transmit channel) or picking up an OS2. It is also the most unreliable, with mixed results - it varies from game-to-game how much DNAS is used, so this is a bad idea.
